In this book, the author analyzed the literature on the performance management system (PMS) concept and its connected role in the value creation process, achieved through the sustainability drivers.
In view of the numerous contributions in literature that consider sustainability as an integral part of the PMS in value creation, survival, and growth of the company, these dimensions remain inadequately addressed in the strategy implementation. Several authors have discussed the relevant role covered by a structured PMS implemented in organizations to achieve high performance.
Considering the dimensions of sustainability and linking them to the company’s performance targets in terms of creating value is now unavoidable. Accordingly, this work focuses on the sustainable development determinants at a strategic dimension, essential to create a strong foundation that allows sustainability to penetrate at the business level.
However, to date, sustainability and corporate strategy are still not adequately integrated. In this context, academics and managers particularly require a clear view of the advantages, the key value drivers and potential solutions to achieve a sustainable integration. In this context, the author developed a roadmap to support corporate transition to integrated sustainable development and PMS processes that can them to achieve economically and environmentally sound performance.
